Checklist

Deep cleaning checklist by room

A deep clean is the set of jobs a weekly clean skips: behind and under things, inside appliances, and built-up residue. This list is for anyone doing that over several short sessions instead of one exhausting day. Each room starts with the jobs you will notice most, so stopping early still helps.

How to use this list

Pick one room and finish its first two or three jobs before anything else. The rest can wait for another day. Doing a few rooms a month tends to stick better than one huge push, and the weekly schedule builder can slot a deep-clean task into spare minutes. If the whole house feels like too much, what to clean first when the house feels overwhelming will help you choose a starting point.

Safety limits

Use one cleaning product at a time and follow its label. Never mix bleach with ammonia or acids, and see the cleaner mixing checker for the common pairs. Ventilate, wear gloves, and stay off ladders or step stools you do not trust. Anything involving electrical wiring, gas appliances or fixed plumbing is a job for a licensed tradesperson, and appliance manuals take priority over this list.

Where this comes from

The jobs reflect the usual deep-cleaning tasks in general household guidance, grouped by room. The safety notes follow published chemical safety advice from the CDC and US poison centers. Which jobs matter most depends on your home, so treat the order as a suggestion. This is general information, not professional advice.
